note: representation of past ownership, see below.
Had my first post-OP* appointment Friday afternoon with the surgeon who did my Septoplasty. Personally I’m not affected by it but for the sake of your souls, I will not describe what came out of my nose today nor how it was done.
I told him that the painkiller meds, Oxycodone-Acetametiphin (aka Percocet or Oxycontin w/ Tylenol, if you will) did nothing** to kill my pain but made me dizzy off and on throughout the day [side note: my internal monologue kept coming up with really bad jokes about jilted, surburban Stepford wives heading toward divorce...don’t look at me like that — it was the drugs talking]....
Whatever. I digress.
He said I can stop taking it immediately and by tomorrow, I should be able to do some things like lawn work and driving and going out to socialize (occasional nasal drip permitting). Plus I’m suppose to have a guy stop by tomorrow to fix a couple of sections on my roof. Fingers crossed he shows.
Oh, about the cars chosen: they represented the last 2 cars that I paid cash and owned outright at the same time***. My ‘96 855T was black, but my ‘02 TL Type-S was silver like the one in the picture. Not really sure why I chose those cars, but I do miss them dearly.
Welp, Goodnight Oppo. And for those of you going out and about, please be safe.
*...giggity
** It did do something positive: it killed my appetite for the past 8 days (normal side effect), enough that I lost about 8-10 lbs
***IMHO, a very sad, sad, painful story for another time...maybe. Don’t worry, no one died.

Tell me about the 855t. Was it a t5? Automatic i assume? How’d you find it, any quirks, bad or good?

I can help with that :). I have an 855R. In short:
Turbo, T5 and R models are startlingly quick, but even the ‘sporting’ R is pretty uninspiring in the handling department.
Ridiculously comfortable seats, interior ergonomics are pretty good. Head- and legroom in the back seat is a bit lacking, though. The heated seats will probably be broken.
The 4-speed automatic is pretty bulletproof unless abused. Only the base 850 got a manual transmission in the US :(.
Heater cores have a tendency to leak; the telltale is damp carpets and a sweet smell from the heater vents. However, they’re very easy to replace. The heater and AC are excellent, though.
The PCV breather system is insanely convoluted, especially on turbo models (factory catch can, yo!), and should be serviced regularly to avoid blockages. A blocked PCV will blow out oil seals and cause leaks; it’s rare to see a higher milage 850 that doesn’t leave a few drips of oil when parked.
Engines will probably start to burn a bit of oil at around 200,000 miles due to valve stem seal wear. Aside from that, they’ll go forever. I compression-tested mine recently, and at 220,000 miles, every cylinder was spot-on in the middle of the original compression spec. Turbo failure is pretty much unknown. As an all-alloy engine, though, they don’t take kindly to being overheated or run with low coolant.
Despite the jam-packed engine bay, they’re remarkably easy to work on.

well the cars are long gone.
Anyway, found it on CL and paid $1250. I could be wrong but I don’t think the T5 designation was used back then. I think that’s for the more modern 2.5L I5 turbo from ‘98-’15. Back then, the ‘96 used a 2.3L I5 Turbo, back when a simple ECU swap was the difference between the 850Turbo and the 850R. what killed mind for good was rotted out wiring. so hopefully whoever ended up with my car either parted it out or had the know how and means to DIY.
my suggestion: don’t go too old if you want a Turbo or R (even with earlier S/V70 which replaced the 850) unless you can fix it yourself. the mitsu turbos used back then are only available today as remain/refurb, and they are well over $1000 usd. hindsight, i should have went with a 960 with a 2.9L I6 N/A and rwd.
also a much better source if you want any Volvo, use Mathew’s Volvo Site ( http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/ ).
and whatever you do, DON’T FALL INTO A HAPPY COMATOSE STATE LOOKING FOR STUFF ON ON IPD ( http://www.ipdusa.com/ )
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!

Sadly im european. My dad has a 940 with the B23 N/A engine tho, and it’s naaaaice for highway cruising. 850 t5's and such are actually down in a reachable pricerange, and not counting the Peugeot 306 3.0 v6's are one of the cheapest way to get 200+hp cars...
Rotted out wiring, man.. 2 cars my dad have are completely dry rotten in the engine bay insulation on the wires...

Heated seats always seem a weak point on cars, typically dead by the first knee put into them i hear...
Thanks for the rest of the info however, defo. will be considering one for eventual next car!

+1 for Ridiculously comfortable seats
my car was already 14-15 y.o. when I go it and the driver’s seat leather was tore up. Still more comfortable than almost any new car that isn’t a Volvo.
then again my late mother’s ‘72 144 with cloth seats were just as comfortable then as it was in ‘85 when she had to reluctantly move on from it.

What do you mean “sadly i’m european”!?
Buddy, you has all the cars we want in the U.S. even if 95% of us can’t afford them.
Anyway, I’m sure IPD ships worldwide. Having said that, maybe one of these guys are more local to you:

Also, it’s the internet. Even though MVS is a U.S. based forum, I’m sure someone there can point in the right direction. Just like eventually, someone on Oppo/Jalopnik/Kinja will be able to do the same.
Of course, you could just buy your dad’s 940...and do an LS swap

Sadly european indeed. All the good imports and special models, none of the mean american v8-ness. Dad’s 940 is a van, no rear seats. Also a silly european thing i guess? Wagon van’s for cargo? But yeah, i’d much prefer having a rear seat and such luxury things.
